Dubai, United Arab Emirates, September 27, 2020: The Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA’s) Dubai Health Insurance Corporation announced today the introduction of diagnosis-related group (DRG) for all hospitals in the emirate.
The move came into effect this month, however, it has been in the pipeline for over four years during which active consultation and stakeholder engagement with the private sector took place.
DRG helps health insurance companies categorize hospitalization costs. Rather than paying the hospital for each specific service that was provided, a private insurer will pay the hospital a predetermined amount based on the patient's Diagnostic Related Group. Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 17 September, 2020: Latifa Hospital for Women and Children revealed that it’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is the largest NICU in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, admitted 1058 babies in 2019, compared to 967 in 2018.
Out of the 1058 admissions in the NICU, 31 per cent (329) were preterm babies, in addition to almost 10 per cent (96 babies) with low birth weight due to Intrauterine Growth Retardation.
