Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – July 02, 2020: Etihad Guest, the award-winning loyalty programme of Etihad Airways, launched a campaign on 5 April 2020 to encourage members to donate their Etihad Guest Miles to support the prevention and response efforts in view of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in refugee settings.

This project offered students the opportunity to put their technology skills to the test while contributing to the fight against COVID-19. The application is based on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and geolocation features to enable monitoring of quarantined individuals and ensures compliance with government guidelines.

Dubai – 29 June 2020: Three customs centers (Hamriya, Creek and Deira Wharfage) at Dubai Customs have dealt with 5,700 traditional dhows and vessels in the last 5 months of 2020. The positive figures, during what has been a testing time, reflects a resilient economy that maintains diversity, even during crises. The customs centers, operated by the Coastal Customs Center Management, have been active and busy as ever during the pandemic in dealing with large volume of goods. Creek and Deira Wharfage centers dealt with 3,300 dhows, carrying 124,000 tons of cargo worth Dh3.3b. Hamriya Port dealt with 2,402 vessels (1,165 wooden dhows and 1,237 vessels). Cargo included vehicles, electronics, spare parts and foodstuff.

Dubai – 27 June 2020: On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed on 26th June every year, Dubai Customs announced its seizures during the past months of the year. These included a seizure of 6.758kg of cocaine concealed in a suitcase and jacket of a lady coming from an African country. Another passenger coming from an Asian country was carrying 5.6kg of marijuana. Another seizure was 120 capsules of cocaine weighing 10.10kg induced by a passenger from an Asian country. Jebel Ali Port Inspection Center seized 53,760 lyrica pills concealed in cartoons as part of a shipment.

Dubai – 15 June 2020: Dubai’s economy continued its exceptional performance despite headwinds from a slowdown in global economic growth due to the coronavirus pandemic. Number of customs transactions completed by Dubai Customs skyrocketed 36% in the first five months of 2020 to reach 5.9 million compared to 4.4 million transactions in the corresponding period in 2019.
In May, Dubai Customs completed 1.1 million transactions compared to 994,000 in May 2019, growing 10.6%. June 3, 2020- The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce Cultural Director Silvia Alice Antibas won the 2019 UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture in a historic victory that was announced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
